Kachua-Shri or Kurma Shri refers to the Divine incarnation as the Tortoise accompanied by the Opulent, beautiful 'Shri' energies that bestow wealth and other benefits. It is recorded in the scriptures that a time came when the devas (demigods-administrators of universal affairs) lost their strengths and became mortal due to a curse from Durvasa muni. An incarnation of Lord Shiva, Durvasa muni was famous for his twin-tendencies to be easily displeased, and to curse the unfortunate persons who caused his displeasure--even if they did so indirectly. The demons become strong and the Divine intervenes The Srimad Bhagavatam narrates that in order to generate an immortality potion ('amrit' or a-mritya--'that which defeats death'), Lord Vishnu appeared as the Kurma or Kachua (tortoise) avataar. The universal ocean of milk was churned using the Mandara mountain as a churning rod and Vasuki the serpent as the rope. The demigods and demons both participated in the churning of the ocean. Lord Kurma's back was used as the resting place for the tip of the Mandara mountain. During the course of the churning first poison was generated which Lord Shiva agreed to hold in isolation in his throat so that it did not affect other living beings. When Lord Shiva did this, his throat turned blue. This is the reason the golden-hued Lord Shiva is called 'neel-kantha'--'the blue throated one'. Subsequently many treasures and valuables came up and were distributed among the demons and the devaas. When the immortality potion appeared, the daityas (demons) insisted on also having a share. Demons lose their intelligence thanks to Sri Vishnu Mohini Murti literally means 'that embodiment of attraction that makes one besotted (and lose one's good sense)'. In the Bahagavatam (8.9.9) the term Mohini Murti uses for herself is "puṃścalyām — (a prostitute) who agitates the minds of men". As the daityas agreed to the one-sided terms, Mohini Murti distributed the amrit to the devaas, while leaving the daityas out of it. This is how the devaas regained their strength, abilities and attained immortality by the direct intervention of the Divine. Sukadeva Goswami (who spoke the Bhagavatam to Parikshit Maharaj) furhter explains: the demons have a crooked snake-like nature, and so to distribute a share of the nectar to them would be like feeding milk to a snake--by which the snake's venom increases. Considering this, the infallible Supreme Personality of Godhead (Sri Kurma), did not give a share of nectar to the demons. Lord Shiva is bewildered by the Mohini Murti form Disclaimer: Results of the Kachua Shri procedure may vary according to individual karmic conditions and according to individual actions.
